All while the company failed to address the issue and provide any clarity on what their guidelines really were. Not just existing titles, even new ones at the time began getting held up before approval by Valve. They said their content was erotic yes but not outright pornographic, and many of them had taken great pains to run everything by Valve representatives. Visual novel makers especially were miffed. Even those titles previously approved by Steam were dropped from the platform citing “reports of pornographic content.” The developers of these games, most of whom were independent and therefore reliant on them to earn a living, were alarmed at the sudden switch in policy. Then, back in May, Valve had a change of heart and began taking down adult games on the platform. The thing is, Steam’s guidelines didn’t specifically address these sorts of games at all. From visual novels to role-playing simulators, to simple arcade games that presented nude pictures of animated women as prizes, most of these simply flew under Valve’s radar. Until earlier this year, it was possible to find various different kinds of adult games on Steam. And that’s something Steam has struggled to deal with these past few months. While game-play and polish vary on these titles, the obvious draw is the X-rated content within. These usually involve a person taking control of a character in a fairly linear story-line, with the main aim being to romance and have sex with one or many sexual partners. ‘Negligee: Love Stories’ is part of a specific gaming genre called erotic visual novels. It’s actually the first time a “100 percent uncensored” adult game is launching to the games store. While this might otherwise be just another day, this particular release is special. Another new game is about to hit Valve’s PC games platform Steam on Friday.
